Cricket Colombia is the official organization leading the development and promotion of cricket throughout the country. We work closely with local communities, government authorities, and sports bodies to expand the reach and impact of cricket in Colombia.<\/p>

The roots of cricket in Colombia go back to 1897<\/span>, with notable resurgence periods in the 1950s to 1970s<\/span>. After years of dormancy, the sport has made a strong comeback, evolving into a vibrant and growing scene. Today, eight men\u2019s clubs\u00a0<\/span>regularly compete in cities like Cali, Bogot\u00e1, Medellin and Barranquilla<\/span>, and women\u2019s cricket,\u00a0<\/span>which began in the 1960s,\u00a0<\/span>is represented by a dedicated women\u2019s club in Barranquilla.<\/p>

The Early Days: From the Late 19th Century to Mid-20th Century<\/h3>

While records indicate cricket was played as early as 1897<\/b>, more consistent reports emerge from the early 20th century, with matches at the La Magdalena Jockey Club in 1905, 1907, and 1909<\/b>. These early contests laid the groundwork for what would become a more formalized presence. A pivotal moment arrived on May 20, 1955<\/b>, with the establishment of the Bogot\u00e1 Cricket Club<\/b>. Founded by Englishman Reginald Brand and Indian Rishiraj Patel, this club is the direct ancestor of today’s Bogot\u00e1 Sports Club (BSC)<\/b>, which proudly saw cricket return to its grounds in 2025.<\/p>

The rivalry between Bogot\u00e1 and Cali teams quickly emerged, with the first recorded match in December 1957<\/b>, involving representatives from the Shell company of Colombia. These matches inaugurated the prestigious “H.E.’s Bat” series, a prize generously donated by the British Ambassador, Sir James Joint. This tradition continued, with the Ambassador’s Cup being keenly contested into the 2000s and recent years, highlighting the ongoing inter-city rivalries. Beyond national contests, Colombian cricket began to spread its wings internationally. The Bogot\u00e1 Cricket Club<\/b> first faced an international opponent in February 1958<\/b> against Maracaibo (Shell)<\/b>, a series that flourished until 1961.<\/p>
